Enter a date of birth and, optionally, a different 'count from' date, to find exactly how many days remain until the next birthday, which day of the week it lands on, and which age is about to be turned. A table below the main result also lists the next five birthdays in a row, so you can see how the weekday shifts from year to year.
If the date you are counting from happens to be the birthday itself, the calculator reports 0 days until and shows that same date as the 'next' birthday — it counts the next occurrence on or after the reference date, not strictly after it.
How the next birthday is found
1. Take the birth month and day, and step it forward to the current (or next) calendar year.2. If that date already passed before the reference date, move to the following year instead.3. Days until = that date minus the reference date; age turning = that year minus the birth year.Leap-day (February 29) birthdays: in a non-leap anniversary year, this calculator clamps the anniversary to February 28 — the same month-clamping convention used by this site's Age Calculator, so the two tools stay consistent. The next TRUE February 29 anniversary is simply whichever leap year comes next.
Worked example: a Feb 29 birthday
- Born February 29, 2000. Counting from March 1, 2023 (2023 is not a leap year).
- The 2023 anniversary is clamped to February 28, 2023 — but that date is already one day in the past relative to March 1.
- So the calculator moves to the next candidate year, 2024, which is a leap year: the anniversary lands on the real February 29, 2024.
- Result: 365 days until the next birthday, turning 24, on a Thursday.

Days until shows 0 and the 'next birthday' listed is that same date — the calculator treats the current day as counting if it matches the birth month and day, rather than always jumping ahead a full year.
How are Feb 29 birthdays handled in non-leap years?
This calculator clamps the anniversary to February 28 in years that are not leap years, matching the convention used by this site's Age Calculator. Some jurisdictions instead use March 1 as the legal anniversary for age-related purposes — check local rules if the exact date matters legally.
Why does the weekday change from year to year?
A common (non-leap) year has 365 days, which is 52 weeks plus 1 day, so a fixed date moves forward by one weekday most years. Across a leap year the shift is two weekdays instead of one, which is why the pattern in the 5-birthday table isn't perfectly regular.
Can I use a date other than today to count from?
Yes — change the 'count from' date to see how many days remained until someone's birthday on any past or future date, which is useful for planning events or checking historical records.
Does the exact time I was born matter for this calculator?
No. The calculation only uses the birth month and day — plus the birth year, to work out the age about to be turned — stepping that month and day forward to the current or next calendar year and comparing it to the reference date. Since only whole calendar dates are compared, what time of day someone was born doesn't change the days-until count or the weekday result.
