Age Calculator

Defaults to today — change it to calculate age at any date.

Fill in the fields to see your result.

Your exact age is the number of whole years since your birth date, then whole months, then the days left over. Someone born 15 May 1990 is, on 19 July 2026, exactly 36 years, 2 months and 4 days old — 13,214 days in total.

How this calculator works

Enter a date of birth and the calculator shows exact age today — or at any other date you choose, which is useful for forms that ask for age at a specific deadline, school cutoffs, or historical dates.

Besides the years-months-days breakdown you also get the total in months, weeks and days. The math is done in whole calendar units, the way official age is reckoned: you turn a year older on your birthday, not after 365.25 days.

How calendar age is counted

1. Count the largest number of whole months from the birth date that does not pass the target date (a month added to Jan 31 lands on Feb 28/29 — day-of-month is clamped).2. Years = whole months ÷ 12; the remainder stays as months.3. Days = what is left after stepping forward that many months.

Total days is the plain difference between the two dates, computed in UTC so daylight-saving changes can never shift the count.

Worked example

  1. Born 15 May 1990, age on 14 May 2024.
  2. 407 whole months fit (408 would land on 15 May, one day past).
  3. 407 months = 33 years and 11 months; stepping to 15 April 2024 leaves 29 days.
  4. Result: 33 years, 11 months, 29 days — 12,418 total days.

Frequently asked questions

When does someone born on Feb 29 get older?

Under the month-clamping convention this calculator uses, the birthday anniversary in a non-leap year falls on Feb 28. Legal rules differ by country — some statutes say Mar 1 — so check the specific law if it matters for a deadline.

Why do different age calculators disagree by a day?

They handle month lengths differently when the start day doesn't exist in a later month (the 31st, or Feb 29). The totals in days always agree; only the years-months-days split varies by convention.

Can I calculate age at a past or future date?

Yes — change the second date. That gives age at a exam deadline, on a wedding day, or at any historical event.

How many days are in a year on average?

365.2425 in the Gregorian calendar. That is why being 10,000 days old works out to about 27 years and 4½ months, not an even 27.

How many days old is someone who has just turned 18?

About 6,574 days. The Gregorian calendar averages 365.2425 days per year, so 18 years works out to roughly 18 × 365.2425 ≈ 6,574 days, though the exact figure for any real person depends on how many leap years fell within those 18 years.
